The Sutherland Inn
Some Little Pubs are built simply to enjoy, and others are built to honour something deeper. The Sutherland Inn is both. It is filled with stories, Scottish spirit and the kind of warmth that makes you want to pull up a chair and settle in. So come on in and meet The Sutherland Inn.
Before they ever decided to bring their own Little Pub to life, Brett and Gayleen were long time My Little Pub followers. Reading the stories of each new Little Pub they quietly imagined what their own might be like. Then earlier this year they stepped inside a Little Pub for the very first time at the Wanaka Show and well, that was it. The rest of the story is happily ever after.
The Sutherland Inn, is a 6m x 3m Little Irish Pub with a proud Scottish soul. It is a tribute to their shared heritage, with each of them descending from different clans whose roots they still visit today. The name carries both their family heritage and a happy memory of a pub with the same name they once visited on a road trip in the north of Scotland, a moment that now lives on in their own backyard.
There was a lot of love, care and thought poured into The Sutherland Inn, with every inch holding a meaningful nod to this couple’s story. The custom stained glass windows feature a thistle for Scotland, a clover for Ireland and a centre poppy to honour the ANZACS. The tartan is a hunting tartan from both the Sutherland and Munro clans, bringing both sides of the family together. Their memorabilia includes precious pieces rescued from storage along with photos of family members, their coats of arms and castles connected to their heritage and a certificate for their own wee piece of Scottish land.
One of the standout custom features is the side barn door that opens straight from the bar into the beer garden. It is perfect for summer gatherings and perhaps even offers a quick escape at the end of the night. Is there such a thing as a Scottish goodbye?
With many diamond features included, the sense of luxury and comfort is never spared. The deep button leather seating invites you to sink in, while the beer on tap invites you to stay a while.
“From the moment we met Brei at the Wanaka Show the whole process of creating the Sutherland Inn has been an unforgettable experience. It was delivered on a sunny Southland day, with Gary on site to oversee its placement. We love having some of our own memorabilia on display and it all looks at home with each piece having its own story which we enjoy sharing. There have been lots of visitors and everyone that has been through is amazed with the workmanship and attention to detail. Thank you to all of The Little Pub team for making this happen.”
It’s been an absolute pleasure working with Brett & Gayleen, from the day they sat down in the Little Pub at the Wanaka Show to that special delivery day. We thank them for trusting us with such a family treasure and wish them many happy hours in The Sutherland Inn.
